UCR Registration & MCS-150 Updates Handled

UCR and MCS-150 deadlines are easy to miss but expensive to ignore. We track every deadline and file every update on time so your operating authority stays active and your business stays legal.

01

Understanding UCR and MCS-150 Requirements

The Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) is an annual registration required for interstate motor carriers, brokers, freight forwarders, and leasing companies. UCR fees fund state motor carrier safety programs and enforcement activities. Failing to register can result in fines and being placed out of service during roadside inspections.

The MCS-150 (Motor Carrier Identification Report) must be filed biennially — every two years — based on the last digit of your USDOT number. This form updates FMCSA with your current company information including address, number of vehicles, drivers, and type of operations. Failure to file your MCS-150 on time can result in deactivation of your USDOT number.

Both of these requirements are straightforward but critically important. Missing them can have consequences far out of proportion to the simplicity of the filings.

Our Registration Management Service

SELAM tracks all your registration deadlines and handles filings proactively — before any deadline approaches. For UCR, we calculate the correct fee based on your fleet size, complete the registration, and provide confirmation. For MCS-150 updates, we gather your current information, file the update with FMCSA, and verify that your USDOT number remains active.

We also monitor for any changes that might require an MCS-150 update outside the normal biennial cycle. Changes in your operation such as adding or removing vehicles, changing your principal place of business, or modifying the types of cargo you haul may require an updated filing. We ensure these changes are reported on time.

For carriers who are part of our Complete Compliance Bundle, UCR and MCS-150 management is included at no additional cost. For individual service clients, registration management starts at $100.

03

Why These Simple Filings Matter So Much

It might seem hard to believe that something as simple as an annual registration or biennial update could threaten your business. But the consequences of missing these deadlines are real and serious.

An expired UCR can result in fines during roadside inspections in participating states. In some cases, officers can place your vehicle out of service until registration is completed. For carriers already under scrutiny, a UCR violation adds another negative mark to an already stressed safety profile.

A lapsed MCS-150 can result in deactivation of your USDOT number, which effectively prohibits you from operating as a motor carrier. Reactivation requires filing the update plus potentially additional documentation and fees. The disruption to your business can cost far more than the filing itself.
